Premiere of Etudes for piano on Concept Lab: Volume IX

Six new etudes for piano will be premiered on the Concept Lab concert series on Sunday, December 8 at Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 3 in Manhattan. Barbara Podgurski will give the premiere.

These etudes are basically performance composition exercises that I am writing to develop my textural technique further – perfect for the Concept Lab series as future etudes over the next couple years will be written as well. In the etudes written thus far I explored a concept of “abstract realism” in which I use more conventional sounding gestures or material in abstract and fragmented ways, with or without any sort of arc, resolution, or completed phrases.

Concept Lab is an exciting new exploratory music series featuring works in progress, improvised works and collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects in all stages of completion. Created by composers Seth Boustead and Will Rowe and run as a collective, Concept Lab is a showcase of the newest of the new and an exciting chance to watch the creative process at work in real time.
